All doors

Wholeness · The first church service · 1

Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.

Genesis 4:6–7 · NASB 1995

Sin is not described as a thing clawing out from Cain’s core. It is crouching at the door — an external predator waiting for an invitation. God puts the authority in Cain’s hands: you must master it.

He does not say, You are doomed by your parents’ sin; it is baked into your DNA. If that were the whole story, this warning would be theater. The door is a barrier you have authority over. You open it by surrendering to the voice on the other side. What’s in your life? Whatever you open the door to.
